21 Books I Want To Read in 2021

Happy New Year!

I really excited to see what this year has in store for my reading. Last year I read 115 books, which is more than I’ve ever read before! I’m setting my goal this year at 52, which amounts to one book a week. As I listen to quite a few audiobooks, I feel like this is an achievable goal. Although I know that reading isn’t a competition, I am quite a competitive person so I like to have an achievable goal to work towards, without making my hobby feel like a chore. In 2019, I didn’t DNF any books, even if I hated them. I’ve changed that this year as life is far too short! I’ve DNFed books that I’m sure I’m going to love just because I’m not in the right headspace to give it the attention that it needs, so one day I’ll just pick them up again.

While my aim is to mood read a bit more, I’m determined to make more of a dent on all the physical books I have at home, as well as my Kindle library. I’m going to try to go on a book buying ban (even from charity shops, my favourite!), except for the book club read for that month as we propose and vote for a book each month so I can’t guarantee that it will be one I have at home or if it will be available through the library. Sometimes we buy a book to share which is really nice.

So, I’ve been through my bookshelves and selected 21 books for 2021 from there that I want to prioritise reading. My book shelf is currently in the spare room, so I’ve moved my 2021 books on to the top of the cabinet on the landing so they are easily accessible and distinct from the others. They are also sandwiched between the cute bookends my fiancé got me for Christmas which are in the shape of artichokes – I love this vegetable as it was a local delicacy in the town where I lived in Spain on my year abroad.

I haven’t got the prettiest bookshelves and just looking at the photo I can see how badly some of the shelves are bowing! I can’t wait to start decorating the spare room in the new year as we are going to turn it into a den so I’m hoping to get some pretty and more substantial shelves.

My 21 books for 2021

So, here are the books I’ve picked out that I want to read by the end of 2021.

Ta-da! 21 books for 2021!
