Since I’ve started exploring the world of books on social media, I’ve been really intrigued by the concept of book tags. I think it appeals to my desire to make lots of lists! My note book is full of different TBRs.
I’m a big fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and really enjoyed the TV show (despite that problematic final series), so this seemed a fitting theme for my first book tag post!
I found this theme on Between the Pages.
House of Lannister: “Hear me roar”
Name a book that you originally loved but on re-reading realised it wasn’t so great after all
For me, this is the Twilight series. I first read this series when I was about 12 years old before the film franchise started. I loved it at the time but after going back I realise the language is pretty repetitive, Edward creeping into Bella’s bedroom is pretty creepy and I think Bella, as a character, lacks gusto. I know a lot of people love this series, and it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, but it doesn’t hold the appeal it once did.
House Stark: “Winter is coming”
Name your most anticipated release for 2020.
The Glass Hotel by Emily St John Mandel is a book I’m really looking forward to. I read Station Eleven by her last year and it is one of my favourite books. I can’t wait to see what this one has in store!
House Targaryan: “Fire and blood”
Name a book that you felt completely slayed with fantastic characters, plot, pacing etc.
For me, this has got to be The Silence of the Lambs by Robert Harris. I really enjoy a thriller and this did not disappoint. Hannibal Lecter is such an amazing character, so creepy, and Clarice Starling is a strong female lead.
House Baratheon: “Ours is the fury”
Name a book that ended in a cliff hanger that really pissed you off.
I can’t say I can really think of a pick for this one. I quite like an ambiguous ending sometimes and it leaves a lot to the readers’ imagination.
House Martell: “Unbowed, unbent, unbroken”
Name a book series that’s been on your TBR since the dawn of time.
I’ve been wanting to read Hilary Mantel’s Cromwell Triology. I’m hopefully starting Wolf Hall this month! Both the first books in the series have won her a Man Booker Prize so I’m optimistic.
House Bolten: “Our blades are sharp”
Name the most graphic or disturbing book you’ve ever read.
So far, this has been Misery by Stephen King. Gory and graphic, but oh so worth it!
House Tyrell: “Growing strong”
Name a book series that gets better and better with every re-read.
I must say I don’t tend to re-read lots of books. However, if I was to pick one, it would be His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. I just love the characters!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this book tag.
I nominate anyone else who wants to have a go!
